Dr. Markey then completed a 5-year head and neck surgical residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), consistently ranked among the top 10 Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. He then completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), one of the most well established and prestigious training programs in the country.

He earned duel-board certification by both ABOTO and AAFPRS. He subsequently served as Assistant Professor as an academic faculty member at New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center, another Top 10 Best Hospital. Dr. Markey returned to Kansas City in 2019 and continues to innovate and improve upon facial plastic techniques for his patients. His contributions extend beyond clinical practice, as evidenced by his involvement in committees in American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and many peer-reviewed publications in multiple prestigious medical journals.

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Markey pursues multiple creative outlets. He is a multi-instrumentalist, performing and writing musical compositions. Dr. Markey also stays active in the community with his wife, Ellie, and exercises daily - especially while chasing after his three daughters.
