Rhinoplasty

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the reshaping of the nose to both improve one’s appearance and improve the nasal breathing.  The procedure is one of the most rewarding and complex performed by facial plastic surgeons. It requires specialized surgical training and an artistic, aesthetic eye.

Dr. Markey is able to provide a customized result for every patient.  No two rhinoplasties performed are identical – each patient desires an outcome that is specific to him or her. This may involve smoothing out a dorsal “hump”, narrowing and raising the tip of the nose, or straightening the nose to the midline.  Regardless of your specific goal, Dr. Markey will walk you through the process before and after your rhinoplasty.

What Can I Expect After the Procedure?

Patients go home the same day after surgery and can usually resume normal activity within a week to 10 days. It is important to avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activity for at least one week after surgery.

Although the initial swelling will go down within a week or so, many patients experience minor swelling—especially in the morning—for the first year after surgery. It takes about a year for the new nasal contours to settle into place but we will schedule regular follow up visits to monitor your progress.
